Using Amazon.com Gift Card Balance To Buy Movies In the UK
I’ve been accumulating a small amazon.com gift card balance for years but with no real way of spending it from the UK. Looking for a movie, I saw it was available on amazon.com but not amazon.co.uk. So, with some experimentation, I was able to make the purchase using my gift card balance.
The key things were 1) setting a US shipping address and 2) removing all credit/debit card payment methods so Amazon reverted to gift card balance
The steps were:
- In Amazon.com, go to Account, Your Payments, then Settings
- Add a fake US shipping address. I used this site to generate one: https://www.fakenamegenerator.com/, although I set the street adresss to 123 Fake Street as it didn’t like the auto-generated one
- Accept any suggested changes to the address, because it doesn’t really matter what it is – as long as it’s in the US
- As part of the process, add a credit or debit card. This can be real details with a real address
- If all setup worked correcly, go to the Wallet tab
- Click the payment method, then Edit, then remove it
- You should have no payment methods set up now
- Go to Prime Movies and make your purchase
It worked for me and I got to buy Godzilla Minus One for $5.99 using money that was otherwise all but inaccessible. The video seemed to play back straight away on my desktop PC, but we’ll see how well it works on the Fire Stick or whether I need to put Nord VPN into the mix.
