Leyton Orient 2-0 Millwall
The first home game for Leyton Orient in League one was against Millwall, and quite a game it was. After a bad defeat at Port Vale on the opening game of the season things weren’t looking too good for the O’s who need to stay in the league after winning promotion last season.
Things started briskly with Millwall looking strong, but a man sent off early in the game left them chasing hard and although it took some time the first goal by Lee Steele was worth the wait, and it was good to see one of our strikers hitting the net early in the season. Gary Alexander’s second finished things off and hopefully we have two confident frontmen now who can stick a few more in over the coming months.
Most of the team played pretty well, as long as they didn’t give the ball to Joe Keith. Matt Lockwood in particular picked up all kinds of balls at the back and made a few good runs forward too. Shane Tudor often played well although did tend to run out of space quite often, as well as sending a good chance high and wide in the second half.
At least we’re off the foot of the table now (bar Rotherham who need to wipe out a 10 point deficit first) and a good result should reassure the team that they can survive in the higher league. Now we just need to do it against 11 men for 90 minutes…
